Landsbankinn changes interest rates

Fixed rates on non-indexed 60-month housing loans were lowered by 0.50 pp and fixed rates on 36-month housing loans by 0.30 pp. Fixed rates on 60-month inflation-indexed housing loans were lowered by 0.35 pp. Changes to fixed rates on housing loans entered into effect on 29 May.

Variable rates on non-indexed housing loans decrease by 0.40 pp and other variable inflation-indexed rates decrease by 0.30 pp. Other variable lending rates in ISK decrease by 0.30-0.50 pp.

Variable deposit rates in ISK in most cases decrease by 0.10-0.50 pp yet remain unchanged in some cases. Interest on the lower amount brackets of Vaxtareikningur premium rate account on the other hand increase by 0.25 pp. The 7-day fixed term provision for deposits to Vaxtareikningur premium rate accounts will be abolished and deposits made free for withdrawal at any time.

Landsbankinn's new interest rate tariff took effect on 1 June 2019.

Icelandic Economic Weekly: Tuesday 2 June 2020

The Icelandic economy contracted by 1.2% year-on-year in Q1. The CPI based on prices in May increased by 0.54% MoM, bringing the headline number to 2.6%. The trade balance and the current account balance were both slightly positive in Q1. The Treasury issued bonds in euros.

Landsbankinn lowers interest rates

Landsbankinn has recently established itself as the financial undertaking that offers the most competitive lending rates in Iceland. Since the Central Bank of Iceland embarked on the current rate-cutting programme, Landsbankinn has generally lowered lending rates more than deposit rates.
