Overview of the Icelandic FX market

The ISK depreciated slightly in October. At the end of the month, the euro stood at ISK 138.0, compared with 135.0 at the end of September. Turnover in the interbank foreign exchange market decreased MoM in October. Turnover was EUR 69m (ISK 9.5bn), the lowest within one month since May 2018. The CBI did not intervene in the interbank market in October.

Landsbankinn changes interest rates

Fixed rates on non-indexed 36-month housing loans decrease by 0.20 percentage points (pp) and fixed rates on non-indexed 60-month housing loans remain unchanged. Variable rates on non-indexed housing loans decrease by 0.15 pp and other variable rates on non-indexed loans decrease by 0.10-0.25 pp in general.

The MPC lowered policy rates by 0.25 percentage points. Concurrent with the policy rate decision, the CBI released its quarterly Monetary Bulletin. Moody's upgraded Iceland's sovereign credit ratings. The ISK depreciated slightly in October. Icelandair released traffic data for October. The population of Iceland increased slightly in Q3.
